The Van Life Collective is looking for enthusiastic individuals who want to work hands-on designing and building camper vans for our clientele. We are the “collective” because everyone involved has brought unexpected knowledge, skills, ideas, and personality to the work we do. We are entering a time of year where we expect to slow down a bit. We are always looking ahead, and will be ramping up around March of 2025. We are always looking for both seasonal and year round employees.
1) Supply Chain Coordinator
Responsibilities:
Purchase products and materials that go into van conversions
Check mail and maintain inventory, mindfully working towards lean operations
Create itemized invoices before clients pick up their vans.
Answer the phone first and direct calls.
Gather data, calculate charges and fees, and create invoices for billing purposes to clients
Calculate costs for services and review costs of products to keep up to date margins
Verify the accuracy of billing data, correcting any errors
Perform light bookkeeping work, which may include entering data and maintaining records, invoices, and supporting documents of amounts due for services rendered
Contact customers to obtain, verify, and update account information when necessary
Create and update SOP’s as new procedures are developed
Perform other related duties, as assigned
Bonus: Work well with hands/tools and can perform van building tasks. This position does not require building, but it is encouraged to take on installs when appropriate. This builds a more intimate knowledge of our build process and helps when we are in our busiest season.
Bonus: Create content for our web store. A keen eye for writing product descriptions and presenting our offers on our website.
Bonus: Sales. Travel to trade shows and events, bringing in new clients and quoting projects.
Experience:
Prior knowledge of the van industry preferred
Previous experience in billing and/or purchasing preferred
College diploma required
Ability to solve problems as they arise
Proficient computer skills with the ability to learn new software. GSuite and specifically Sheets is a must.
Must have time management skills, organizational skills, multitasking skills, and detail oriented
Able to stay focused on tasks and can work well under pressure
Excellent communication skills including active listening and attentiveness
Knowledge and willingness of, or ability to learn, a product, service, or area of customer service specialization

General Work hours between Monday-Friday 8am-3pm
This position is paid hourly, and you would be expected to be present at the shop in Hood River at least 4 days a week. Some tasks could be completed from home.

2) Electrical and Diagnostics Tech
As a diag tech, you will be responsible for diagnosing and repairing electrical, wiring, and mechanics on vans. This job crosses over into an installer and fabrication, and you will work on both new and used vans. We are looking primarily for someone with electrical and automotive experience with a positive attitude and ready to join a team of van lifers, outdoor enthusiasts, and adventurers.
Responsibilities:
Be present and ready to work while in the shop
Have your own set of basic tools
Be self-motivated and team oriented
Flexible and adaptive; able to multi-task in response to time-sensitive and changing situations based on project needs
Participate and contribute to group meetings/debriefs regarding weekly functions and future projects
Complete daily and monthly shop duties (i.e. cleaning duties and general shop maintenance)
Work efficiently and have great time management skills to meet SLA’s and project deadlines
Able to learn and be open to receiving constructive advice
Able to observe, follow, and understand safety protocols in a shop setting
Be resilient, stay positive and solution oriented
Have pride in your accomplishments
Experience:
At least 2 years of experience in a professional setting in electrical or automotive
Proficient knowledge of electrical and plumbing systems
Proficient knowledge in electrical
12v off grid systems
120v standards
Heating systems
Technology savvy, comfortable using Google software products and Trello
Track and consolidate data as needed
Manage Inventory
Minimum college degree or relevant trade school
Clean driving record

3) Installer
As an Installer, you will be joining our team and be responsible for installing parts and kits on vans. Applying for the Installer position means you have experience using hand tools, power tools, and are willing to be trained on other shop equipment. Applicants should also have general mechanical, systems, and electrical knowledge. They should also have a positive attitude and want to join a team of van lifers, outdoor enthusiasts, and adventurers.
Responsibilities:
Be present and ready to work while in the shop
Have your own set of basic tools, including basic drills, sockets, and measurement devices.
Be self-motivated and team oriented
Flexible and adaptive; able to multi-task in response to time-sensitive and changing situations based on project needs
Participate and contribute to group meetings/debriefs regarding weekly functions and future projects
Complete daily and monthly shop duties (i.e. cleaning duties and general shop maintenance)
Work efficiently and have great time management skills to meet SLA’s and project deadlines
Able to learn and be open to receiving constructive advice
Able to observe, follow, and understand safety protocols in a shop setting

Experience:
At least 1 year of experience in van build outs independently or in a professional setting
Fabricating and Installing VLC manufactured parts as well as externally sourced kits
Proficient knowledge of electrical and plumbing systems
Proficient knowledge in
Window, ceiling fans, heaters, and component installation as needed
Electrical diagnostic and 12v battery systems
Carpentry basics
Glue/adhesion knowledge
Metal cutting/grinding; modifying parts to fit
Use of hand tools, power tools, and other shop equipment
Repair, install, re-seal components as needed
Install, repair, and diagnose heating systems
Technology savvy, comfortable using Google software products and Trello
Track and consolidate data as needed
Manage Inventory
Minimum High School/GED requirement
Clean driving record
