Pickup Procedure:

  1. Find the van! She should be parked at the front of the lot. Lucille has her name on her, right in front of the driver door, and it’s usually the only one with a roof top wood deck.

  2. The key - in the lockbox hanging on the back door. I will give you the code ahead of time. The box comes off — hit the tab inside to slide out the cable.

  3. Please read through this guide, and fill out the form at the bottom, including uploading photos to show any damage concerns.

  4. You may park your car next to Lucille (or swap spots!). Hold on to your key.

I) Van Basics

  1. Filling Diesel - the cap is behind the flap by the driver door

  2. DEF - diesel exhaust fluid. We fill this up and you should not have to deal with it. In case the DEF light does comes on, you can buy DEF at any gas station. Put in a whole 2.5 gal cube. The DEF cap is under the hood, front and center.

  3. To unlock slider or rear doors, use the FOB or the top lock button in the center of the dash

  4. The back doors lock after each use. To open, hit the unlock butten and gently lift the handle. A swift yank will bind the lock and you’ll have to unlock it again.

II) Power Systems
**The batteries are not tiny, but they do take awareness to maintain a proper charge. There is a monitor on the passenger seat pedestal showing % and voltage (the square one), and another monitor on the grey soalr charger in the garage. 12.8 v is 100%. The monitor is most accurate when no appliances are pulling power and the van is off.

  1. Fridge - should be on 4-5: cold enough but will not freeze veggies. Any higher and the solar will not keep up. Remember to park with the roof in the sun!
*The freezer does not do the best with ice cream :(

  2. Charging - it’s most efficient to charge phones off the usb next to the light switch

  3. Using 120V power: turn on the inverter - hit the switch located on the inverter, on the passenger side under the bed. Turn it off when not in use to save power.
If it is beeping at you, it means you have run the batteries down or are trying to pull too much.
The batteries will not run an electric kettle.

  4. What to do if your battery is low? Plug in shore power — it’s the black cord end on the passenger side at the very back, inside under the bed. No switch, just plug in.
Or go for a drive and the van will charge the batteries.

III) Camping Systems

  1. Water pump - the switch is located above the sink to the right. It’s a white light switch

  2. The grey water is the short jerry can under the sink. It will fill up before you run through all your water so we recommend emptying it periodically.

  3. Fresh water - you have 6 gal fresh under the sink, and another 6 gal to swap in placed behind the driver seat

  4. Cooking - you have a 2 burner propane stove and oven. Use the lighter in the silverware drawer (above the fridge) to light. To swap propane tanks, lift the back piece of the counter to access behind the stove.

  5. Coffee - There is a poor over and a kettle for the stove. The power system is not designed for an electric kettle.

  6. Bed - the end of the bed drops to form the back of the couch. Just flip the tabs back.

  7. Heat - here’s a video about the heater control. You can set temp and run time. It takes about a minute to turn on, and if it has not been run in a while you may need to cycle it a few times. Here’s a troubleshooting video just in case.

  8. Fire Extinguisher is behind driver seat.

  9. Fire Alarm is left of stove

For dropoff, you can leave the van anywhere in our parking lot and put the key back in the portable lockbox on the back door. Please leave a full tank of diesel, empty your greywater and remove and food from the fridge.

Thank you so much!
